Sector 5
It is on the southern side of Kale, starting from tower 13 on the east and stretches along the inner side of the southern fortification wall to the south gate on the east.
In tower 13, the floor of its third storey was discovered. Next to the southern fortification wall, a solidly built hall was discovered, which follows the fortification wall to the southern gate.
The entry part of the southern gate was cleared and fully opened; flanked on both sides by towers 11 and 12. At the very entrance a threshold was discovered – stone block under the former entrance arch.
On the inner side of the fortification wall, directly connected with it, there were various faculties with many construction phases discovered. In the western part of the sector a construction was discovered that was used as an access to the third floor of tower 13. It had an access on the eastern side via a paved street which continued in cobble stone to the west via one step.
In the highest layers of the sector there was a complex facility discovered (most probably workshops), made of 4 rooms. According to the discovered material, the complex dates from XIII-XIV century (1270-1350). In front of the complex there was another room discovered; it was used as a workshop for production of metal objects.
Only two burials have been discovered in sector 5 so far, which can indicate that part of the medieval necropolis could also be discovered in this area.
The movable material indicates a chronological unity mainly of the Middle Ages, except for the occasional occurrences of the later periods. Fragments of many luxurious vessels, cross-like application, bone arrow, bronze ring, bone and bronze needles, bronze buttons, many Byzantine coins can be mentioned.
